Sciangai 50 is a faithful replica of the original sketch found in De Pas, D’Urbino and Lomazzi’s studio by Fabio Calvi and Paolo Brambilla, Zanotta’s new Art Directors, a brightly coloured pencil drawing where each rod has a different shade. An empathic and communicative object that customises its surroundings with a touch of playful authentic anti-conformism as its eight colourful branches open out.
“Objects need to form a friendly rapport with their users while also being easy to use”.
Paolo Lomazzi
Folding and adjustable clothes-stand. Multicoloured lacquered beech frame. Numbered edition.
Sciangai - the iconic folding coat stand design by De Pas, D’Urbino and Lomazzi in 1973, winner of the Compasso d’Oro award in 1979 - celebrates its 50th anniversary. Zanotta celebrates this milestone anniversary with Paolo Lomazzi by creating a special unlimited numbered edition: introducing Sciangai 50, an explosion of bright and joyful colours.
A folding clothes stand with a highly elementary yet user-friendly operating mechanism that draws its inspiration from the Mikado pick-up sticks game.
In Sciangai, each element forms a point of contact with the ground and, at the same time, provides somewhere to hang a coat or a hat at the top, the tips specifically shaped to hold onto each garment or item of headwear. The eight solid beech-wood sticks are connected together by a joint a little above the middle and when they are open, they create an adjustable circumference to suit the surrounding available space, creating a coat stand of varying dimensions.
