Zanotta is pleased to announce its participation in the exhibition "PIROUETTE: TURNING POINTS IN DESIGN, AN EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTING DESIGN AS AN AGENT OF CHANGE" at MoMA - The Museum of Modern Art in New York, from 26 January to 18 October 2025.
The exhibition focuses on objects designed from 1930 to the present day that have had a strong impact on people in the field of design and society in general, showing more than 100 pieces from the Museum's collection, including Zanotta's famous Sacco. Curated by Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator of MoMA's Department of Architecture and Design, the exhibition consists of various objects, from furniture and household appliances to symbols and information, highlighting how design has always helped people realise change or adapt to it.
"Every object has a history. Some objects make history, or change it" says Paola Antonelli. "Design can help steer us in positive directions by making us aware of and helping us correct negative behaviour. It can also introduce new behaviours that embody renewed purpose, sustainability and justice to each other. In this exhibition, we will highlight a sample group of these significant objects, one by one".
Conceived by Gatti Paolini and Teodoro in 1968 to adapt to the body in any situation, Zanotta's Sacco is a universal seat, a symbol of Italian design in the world and an iconic object that has radically changed the perspective of this discipline. Still considered one of the most ingenious and representative objects of Italian design, the Sacco is versatile, irreverent and informal; it has survived all seasonal trends unscathed, confirming its position as a timeless object that is perfect for use at any age.Present in many museum collections around the world, the Sacco won the ADI Compasso d'oro for Lifetime achievement in 2020.
