Zanotta and Bottega Veneta have reimagined the iconic Sacco chair, originally designed in 1968 by Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro, on the occasion of the maison’s Summer 25 fashion show.
The collaboration brings an array of playful, animal-shaped chairs that combine ease with purpose. Commissioned by Matthieu Blazy and manufactured by Zanotta specifically for Bottega Veneta, The Ark features 15 animal designs in a variety of colourways.
Inspired by the original Sacco chair, the animal-shaped seats were crafted entirely in leather, blending comfort with creativity. For Blazy, each design is an expression of childlike creativity, representing what the Creative Director refers to as "the power of wow".
The Sacco’s signature softness, malleability, and anti-formalism are retained in Blazy’s playful reinterpretation.
The featured animals are dog, panda, rabbit, ladybird, snake, bird, chicken, dinosaur, otter, elephant, cat, fox, bear, horse, and whale.
Sold over six months in small numbers, the first limited-edition quantities from The Ark are now available on the Bottega Veneta website from 22 September 2024, with two of each animal offered.
From 1 to 8 December, The Ark will be showcased at Design Miami. Starting 1 December, the chairs will be on display at the Bottega Veneta store in the Miami Design District, with exclusive editions of the light grey rabbit and white chicken available for purchase.
